Greetings—

Here we see the reflection of my kitchen while looking out of my rear window towards the back yard. Had a nice Chicken and Italian sausage glop going on the stove.

This photo is for me a perfect example of why I never trash photos for at least a year. I’ve been looking at this one for a while and have been on the fence about it; whether it was any good or not. I saw it this morning and, for whatever reason, it just hit me. Hope you like it too.

I thought I’d get back to the concert/stage lighting theme today. Here I was positioned in the pit just below the stage and the dust dancing in the footlights caught my eye. It was an outdoor festival that took place on a gravel surface … no wonder my sensor needs cleaning, huh?

Today is an example of something I rarely do with my images; go totally ape-shit on them! What we’re looking at is the shadow of the stage lighting at The Gaelic Park IrishFest. I really, really liked the image; the composition, the feel … everything, actually. Only problem was that, because of the high ISO with which I took the shot, I just wasn’t able to get the final look I was searching for. I’m not a fan of “grainy” photos normally, and in most cases I’m able to work my magic to the point where I can clean them up all nice and purty. Not in this case, however.

So, I thought about it … and thought some more … and even a little more. I finally decided to bring the image into Nik ColorEfex and just start playing around. This is what I ended up with.

Greetings~

I have come into the city
Because my soul is adrift
Noises that strive to fear
I saw you hunched and
Shivering on the curb
Are you alive?

Today’s photo is dedicated to Arlene Radasky in honor of those, “What did I just do?” moments.

Ah, sure, it’s good to be back home after the long weekend at the Iowa IrishFest. Had a grand time. Of course, photos will be coming very soon, maybe as early as tomorrow.

Todays shot is a building in Chicago. I was looking for a symmetrical feel … but something a little different; enter the Rotate command!

Greetings~

I’m excited to share this photo with you today as it was part of a new article I wrote for PhotographyBB Online Magazine [pdf] called, “Symmetry: From Photo to Photoshop.”

Issue #18 for July is just choke full of photography goodness; Digital Photography tips and techniques, DSLR camera function training, and image post processing tutorials in Adobe® Photoshop™, and RAW processing in Photoshop Lightroom™.

Contents this month include:

WILL CELL PHONE CAMERAS BE THE DEATH OF P&S? By Kenneth Fagan
THE NEW PENTAX K-7 By Dave Seeram
PHOTOGRAPHER’S RIGHTS IN AMERICA TODAY By Jon D. Ayres
PORT DOUGLAS, AUSTRALIA By David Martin
MONTHLY FAQ: LENSES, FILTERS, MANUAL MODE, AND MORE! By Colin Bell
THE RULE OF THIRDS-THEN AND NOW By Jason Anderson
PORTRAIT LIGHTING BASICS By John Ogden
SYMMETRY: FROM PHOTO TO PHOTOSHOP By Gareth Glynn Ash
ADDING FIREWORKS IN PHOTOSHOP By Jennifer Farley
THIS MONTH’S SPOTLIGHT INTERVIEW Chris Walters

Editor in Chief, Dave Seeram had these comments regarding this recent release:

“The name of the game for issue 18 is all about composition. This month we take an in depth look at symmetry; how it is everywhere in our lives and how we can use symmetry to create stunning photos. We also take a different look at the Rule of Thirds as it applies to both photography today, as well as historical works of art in the past. In keeping with the composition theme, this month’s Photoshop tutorial teaches our readers how to create a digital composite image by adding fireworks into any night photo scene.

In our Photography Around the World column, photographer David Martin takes us to Australia for a look at the splendor of the scenery, rainforests, wildlife, waterfalls and so much more.”

By way of download in either PDF or ZIP formats, PhotographyBB continues its trend through the future of free downloadable magazine distribution. In a completely ad-free format, each issue contains informative and educational tutorials for amateur and intermediate level photographers.

In addition to articles which aide photographers in getting the most from their DSLR cameras, the PhotographyBB Online Magazine also features useful and applicable tutorials on how to use post-processing tools such as Photoshop and Lightroom, to build on digital photography post-processing skills.

PhotographyBB Online Magazine is available for free download through the PhotographyBB Website at: http://www.photographyBB.com/magazine
