Glowing Landscape with Superficial Vision

Good morning and welcome back. It’s good to be back in the saddle once again after my extended weekend/working vacation covering the Iowa IrishFest in Waterloo, Iowa for PaddyRock Radio. The craic was flowing freely with three days of great music, great food and most of all, great folks. I had a blast. I’ll be posting a new gallery of all the festivities in the days ahead, so keep an eye out for that.

Anyway, let’s get this ball rolling once again, shall we? This is a shot of the Chicago skyline from Evanston, IL. It was a hot and muggy day with a low haze hanging low over the still air around the skyscrapers. I tonemapped and then added a charcoal and pencil sketch effect to this one.

Here’s a shot from our back yard this time, which I tonemapped and then added a “painterly” effect. I don’t think this effect works for all images, but for this one I’m pleased … kinda obvious, or else I wouldn’t have posted it, huh?

Why “Tai Lung,” you say? Here’s a hint: Did you see the movie, “Kung Fu Panda?” If so, look at the photo again … very closely.

For the curious among you, here’s the original:

Before I wrap things up for today; a big thanks to Damien over at Your Photo Tips for featuring yours truly and my humble little blog in his post on July 25th, “Weekend Perusing: The Way I See It.” I wasn’t really sure what I was looking at for a second — I was so taken aback — but once I realized I had, indeed, clicked over to Damien’s site, I was just tickled … all sorts of colors. Thanks again, Damien, for the mention and the kind words. That was very nice.
