Goodness … this one’s been on the shelf for a while. Taken back in March of 2009, on a cold and blustery Wisconsin morning. I remeber that we had a weather system moving into the area on this morning … the next day we had ten inches of snow on the ground. That’s how our winter was; tons of snow, melt … tons of snow, melt.

Strange how we remember things about our photos, even if we haven’t seen them for a while, isn’t it?

A scene from this past weekend when we got yet more snow. Just a dusting this time, but still … I’m ready for winter to truly be over, and not just in name only, let me tell ya!

High-born race
Which keeps
The ancient songs
Let me be sad
In the dark and peace of my final bed
No prey am I of poor thoughts
This is the song of youth

An very ugly situation this past Monday put us out of commission — computer, camera, internet-wise — most of the week, but we’ve got the house back in some semblance of order; I’ve been able — a little — to wrap my head around what happened and get myself in a somewhat better place, so “The Way I See It” is back in the saddle. No need to go into all the gory details…suffice to say that everyone is fine. Yes, I’m being rather vague and I apologize for that, but that’s where we’re at right now. If you read between the lines, you can probably pick up on a general idea of what happened.

Let me just say one thing to the photographers out there: Always create multiple backups of your files! This situation could’ve been much worse for me, but thanks to many layers of redundant backup, I have my photos!

Today’s scene was captured at the mouth of the Pike River in Kenosha, WI, just before it empties into Lake Michigan. This is fast becoming my new location of choice for around town, so I expect I’ll have many new captures from this location in the future.

Established Prediction of Dreams

Greetings~

As promised, a “real” landscape shot today … one a little more encompassing, more expansive, as it were. And, once again, it’s also compare and contrast, as I (being me) much prefer the B&W while you, (being you) much prefer … which? Color? B&W? Let me know by posting a comment!

By the way
, if you’re in the Milwaukee area tomorrow night, there’s a real good show going on at Linneman’s; Julie B. Well will be performing with special guests Toad King and Eddie Hamilton. It promises to be a good one, so stop on out if you can.

Information & Spirit

Greetings~

I’m taking a break from sorting and developing all the shots of The Sandcarvers in the studio (see previous post), so I thought I’d throw up a quick entry, seeing as I blew off blogging yesterday!

This is sunrise in Kenosha on January 1, 2009 … the first shots I took of the new year. I was almost ready to give up on this scene overlooking the Pike River as it flows into Lake Michigan in the background. Nothing was happening … the sky just was not cooperating. I set up up my gear and waited in the blustery cold. I looked at my watch and it was already five minutes past sunrise and nothing was happening when suddenly the pinks started showing through the clouds. Needless to say, I stuck around and got this about twenty minutes later. There’s a few more in this series which I’ll break out in the days ahead.

Here’s the color version:

Technical Info:
Canon 20D; Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens @ 30mm; Av priority; 0.8, 1.6 & 3.2s (three image HDR merge); f/11.0; ISO 100
