Greetings~

Here’s a shot from out on Lake Michigan, looking back onto Waukegan Harbor and it’s skyline. I remember as I was heading out for this being kinda disappointed in the weather conditions; it was cold, dark and rainy. But upon seeing the results, I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out. Just goes to show that, even if you’re headed out to capture bright and beautiful you shouldn’t be afraid to change course mid stream and go dark and gloomy.

I think tomorrow we’ll play another round of “Compare and Contrast,” where I’ll be posting two photos of the same shot, one color and one black and white. Should be fun!

Today’s shot is representative of a theme that I’ve been trying to incorporate into my work lately; the mix of man and nature and how we as a species can really mess things up. It’s a thumbprint of how we can totally screw up the scenic beauty but yet create odd beauty or, more often, uglyness at the same time.

I hope you all enjoyed The Sandcarvers video, “Boffyflow and Spike” that I posted yesterday. My wife (a Sandcarver herself, and the sexiest one, too, I might add) had a really cool time putting this together. It’s fun when you can collaborate with someone and create something cool in the process. I kind of know now a little of how she must feel when she’s writing songs with the band.
