This is a shot of the bushes right outside our front door. We had just got dumped on by one of the many major snow storms we’ve seen this year. Hopefully, the worst of that part of winter is behind us. Damn … I mentioned it. You know what’s gonna happen now …

I have no words today, so let’s move right into:

In other Words … and Scenes

Interesting … “Creative Photography”:

This web site aims to be a complete online book on photography. There are many web sites on photography which consist of collections of articles and tutorials on different aspects – but we felt that something a little more structured would be useful, and therefore set about writing a complete online book.

Seems like this would be a good resource to keep around for reference.

Here’s some good stuff from the folks at Digital Photography School … they’ve been on a roll, lately:

9 Nude Photography Tips
DIY Lighting Hacks for Digital Photographers
How to Replace a Sky in Photoshop

And finally, a new blog to peruse:

Technical Info:
Canon 20D; Canon EF 70-200m f/2.8 IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens; Tv priority; 1/320; f/2.8; ISO 100; single image, tonemapped.

This should give you an idea of how much snow we received back on and around the 10th of this month. That’s my oldest son standing there … he’s 6′-2″ tall and I was 2 steps up on our front porch when I snapped this. It was nuts, I tell you. 14″ of the white stuff in a little over 24 hours.

Fog, warm weather and rain. These conditions melted our first big snow of the season. This was around 11:00PM and the temperature was almost sixty degrees … in December!

Figured I might as well stay with the “Winter” theme for a while. This is also from our first major snow of the season. I fired off some shots from our second major storm yesterday and I’ll have those up soon … hell, I’m still working on the sunrise shots I took new years morning!

I’m also thinking of throwing together a “Best of the Rest: 2008″ gallery. Time permitting, of course.

“Hear that? I love the sound of snowblowers in the morning!”

Yes, we’re digging out again! And I was right; the 6 -8 inches they were calling for has, indeed, turned into over 12″! We got 5″ yesterday morning and an additional 9″ since 8:00PM last night … and according to the current radar, we have about another four hours of snowfall to go before this system moves out of here.

Oh … and the forecast is calling for more snow tomorrow and Monday, as well!

Yee-freakin-haw!

The shot above is from our first big storm back in December. Remember I said that because of late 2008 warm weather and rains that most of that snow had pretty much disappeared? Today, we’re looking like the shot above once again.

Time for hot chocolate!

Disintegrating Singularity of Peace

Greetings~

My wife smiled when she saw this one, so this is for you, my love!

Southeast Wisconsin is bracing for what could be upwards of 10″ of new snow in the next two days:

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST SATURDAY. SNOW SPREADING INTO SOUTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL WISCONSIN EARLY THIS MORNING WILL CONTINUE INTO THIS EVENING BEFORE DIMINISHING. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES ARE EXPECTED BY LATE TONIGHT. IN GENERAL…THE HEAVIER AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TOWARD THE ILLINOIS BORDER WITH SOMEWHAT LIGHTER AMOUNTS IN THE PORT WASHINGTON AND WEST BEND AREAS. THE DURATION OF THIS SNOWFALL WILL BE QUITE LONG AS IT WILL TAKE 24 HOURS OR MORE FOR THE SNOW TO ACCUMULATE. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AND BECOME NORTHERLY 10 TO 20 MPH TONIGHT. AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW COULD CONTINUE TO HAMPER TRAVEL LATE NIGHT EVEN AS THE SNOW BEGINS TO TAPER OFF AND END FROM NORTH TO SOUTH.

Yeah, 6 to 8 inches. That usually means one of two things: add at least two inches to that prediction … or we’ll get hardly anything! As I look outside right now (4:45AM) the snow has indeed began falling and the sidewalks are white, so I guess we’ll see what happens. Sigh. Well, at least there will be ample opportunity for photos if it happens.

Winter Scene with a Point of Love

Greetings~

This will give you an idea of how much snow we had the weekend of 12/19/08. It began late Friday night and didn’t really let up until Sunday morning. When all was said and done we had 16″ on the ground. For perspective, my lovely wife who’s seen here is 5′-2″.

Strangely, due to unseasonably warm weather (temps in the 60′s) and a deluge of rain (over 4″) about a week ago, you’d hardly know now that there was much snow at all … it’s mostly all gone.
